Meetings With a Maternal Connection

As it’s the season when mothers are front of mind, we thought we would give you a round up of venues around Scotland with a maternal connection, however tenuous.

Glamis Castle

Glamis Castle, one of Scotland’s most historic and stunning venues, with a history of over 600 years, is best known as the childhood home of the late Queen Mother and the birthplace of Princess Margaret.  The Castle also provided the setting for the murder of King Malcolm in Shakespeare's tragedy, Macbeth.

Glamis Castle is also said to be one of the the most haunted castles in Scotland.  It is believed the ghost of the ‘White Lady’ has haunted the castle for hundreds of years.

With its first-rate hospitality and panoramic views, Glamis Castle is the perfect setting for a meeting or incentive event.  Set in the picturesque Angus countryside, Glamis provides the ideal entertaining venue for private receptions, lunch parties, grand dinners and meetings.

Our Dynamic Earth

Our Dynamic Earth, the ‘Mother Earth of all adventures’, takes visitors on a journey through our planet’s past, present and future, with interactive exhibits and impressive technology, including a 4D and 3D experience, all building an understanding of mother nature.

With stunning views across the Edinburgh cityscape, Our Dynamic Earth is perfectly located as a conference venue with a unique twist.  Facilities at this superb venue can cater for a range of corporate events, from initimate meetings to large corporate gatherings and gala dinners.  Events at Our Dynamic Earth can be unusual and fascinating at the same time, whether it is sipping champagne by an extinct volcano or iceberg, or holding a reception in the tropical rainforest.

Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle is where Mary Queen of Scots gave birth to the future king:  James VI of Scotland and I of England.  Although she lived in various places in Scotland throughout her life, the birth of the child who would unite the crowns of England and Scotland, makes Edinburgh Castle arguably her best known home.

Edinburgh’s inconic landmark, the Castle provides an enviable backdrop for a conference or special event and there can be few more awe-inspiring locations.  There are various rooms available to hire including the Queen Anne Building in Crown Square, at the heart of the Castle, which offers a private facility for daytime meetings or presentations.  The Gatehouse is a superb venue for a small drinks party and the Jacobite room offers stunning views across Edinburgh for a dinner or large reception.   Guests can also enjoy a private view of Scotland’s historic crown jewels as part of their event.

Thainstone House, Inverurie, Aberdeen

Famously haunted by The Green Lady and her mother, the luxury Thainstone House Hotel could be the ideal location for a conference or meeting.  Catering for up to 400 delegates, the stunning hotel sits in tranquil grounds which also offer a range of outdoor pursuits.  The hotel also offers a superb spa and swimming pool.

With fascinating history dating back to the 18th century when the building was burned to the ground by Jacobites, it is no wonder ghosts wander throughout this venue.  The haunted bedroom is number 406 and residents are known to request this room, knowing its ghostly past and when keen to meet the Green Lady and her mother.

With high standards of service and well equipped meeting facilities, Thainstone Hotel can also lay on grass karting, quad biking, archery, shooting and, of course, golf.
