Meetings in the Festival City

World-renowned as a festival city and the place to be in August, Edinburgh is also a truly inspiring destination for meetings and incentives and home to some of the leading hotels, museums and purpose-built conference centres in Scotland.

As the Edinburgh International Festival (EIF) launches today (Friday, 12 August), and with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe already in full swing, we take a look at some festival venues which also offer the ideal location for your next corporate event in Scotland’s capital city.

Usher Hall

One of the EIF’s primary venues for music and opera during August, the Usher Hall also offers versatile, flexible spaces for a wide variety of corporate events. Situated in the heart of Edinburgh, the renowned concert hall is perfect for corporate entertaining, meetings, conferences, and much more. The fantastic new and upgraded facilities include a cafe bar and modern, versatile function spaces that overlook the stunning, original Edwardian architectural features. For large events and conferences there is seating in the main auditorium for over 2,000 people.

Edinburgh Playhouse and the Green Room at Picardy Place

A venue for the EIF and the Fringe in 2011, the Edinburgh Playhouse also offers a grand and memorable setting for meetings and conferences throughout the year.

Also a venue for the Edinburgh Playhouse’s Fringe programme in 2011, the Green Room at no. 12 Picardy Place is the perfect venue for a full spectrum of bespoke events from small private gatherings to large corporate meetings and dinners.

Edinburgh Zoo

Edinburgh Zoo is one of the city’s leading tourist attractions and a unique venue for the Fringe in 2011.  The Mansion House at Edinburgh Zoo is a truly remarkable venue, offering a special touch to any meeting or event with access to over 1,000 wonderful animals!   Edinburgh Zoo is getting set to welcome two giant pandas, due to arrive by the end of 2011.

The Mansion House, dating back more than two hundred years, stands at the heart of the park, which extends over 80 acres of beautiful hillside parkland, facing south with stunning views across to the Pentland hills.  The rooms in the Mansion House are ideal for up to 60 delegates, but the Zoo can also offer conference and presentation facilities for up to 200 delegates in the Education Centre, just one minute’s walk away. And for something truly different, the Zoo’s Budongo Trail – the world’s largest chimpanzee enclosure – has a very special boardroom overlooking the chimps’ internal play areas.

Ghillie Dhu

The Ghillie Dhu, based in the west end of Edinburgh, was launched in 2010 and hosts a variety of Fringe shows.   It is also an attractive venue for meetings and corporate events.  The main auditorium located on the first floor of this former church is a breathtaking setting ideally suited for a range of events, from an away day for 30 delegates to black tie dinner for 200 guests. The stunning vaulted ceiling and floor-length windows are ideal for a reception to give added wow-factor to that all important meeting, conference, dinner or special occasion.

The Hub

Headquarters to the EIF in August, the Hub is located on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile at the heart of the festival experience.  Another former church, the Hub provides a fantastic location for events. The versatile facilities can accommodate anything from a small away-day for four to an international convention for 400. The stunning architecture and dynamic surroundings provide a stimulating business environment.

Dance Base

Dance Base, Scotland's National Centre for Dance and a venue during the Fringe, has been active as an independent company promoting and delivering dance in Edinburgh since 1994.  Dance Base is an award-winning fully accessible building, which provides a central venue for meetings in the city’s Grassmarket.  A meeting room as well as modern, spacious studios provide unique and inspiring space for corporate groups.

In September 2010, Dance Base opened a second venue in Thomas Morton Hall in Leith. This beautiful heritage studio has been lovingly restored and redecorated providing a stunning venue for meetings and private parties.

Royal Lyceum Theatre

As well as staging productions during the EIF, and remaining Scotland’s premier producing theatre company, the Royal Lyceum Theatre can be hired in whole or in part to cater for a conference or meeting.  As well as the main auditorium which is an ideal and striking location for a full company conference, there are a variety of function rooms and bars that can be set up for almost any business function.  The entire auditorium has a capacity of 658 and is a spectacular theatrical setting for any corporate event.

Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC)

Providing a grand stage for some of the Fringe’s top performers, the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) is one of the world’s outstanding venues for conferences, conventions and exhibitions.  Since opening in 1995, the EICC has welcomed more than 800,000 delegates through its doors for more than 2,100 events, generating £245m for the city.  Centrally located, the EICC can accommodate conferences and events for 150 to 2,000 people with five event spaces including the largest, the Pentland Suite.
