VisitScotland BTU nominated for a host of industry awards

The Business Tourism Unit has recently been nominated for a number of top awards across the meetings and events industry.  The team has been nominated for the much coveted “Destination Marketing Team of the Year” at the Conference and Incentive Travel Awards, as well as a host of nominations for their flagship Scotland Means Business event.

The destination marketing team award will go to the team that has flown the flag for their country or region to the fullest with entrants submitting examples of their best work done to promote their destination to the UK Conference and Incentive market.

The November 2010 edition of Scotland Means Business held at the Turnberry resort, Ayrshire, was entered in to a number of categories such as “Best Live Marketing Event” and most “Cost Effective Use of a Budget” given the impressive results it yielded, particularly in terms of return on investment.   With 100% of post-event feedback rating the event as excellent or good, over £3million in confirmed business has already been achieved - a return on investment of 1:56.

Scotland Means Business has existed for a number of years, and has at its core the objective to provide a vital platform allowing international meeting and event organisers the perfect opportunity to develop crucial relationships with top Scottish venues and suppliers and discover more about the unique and diverse offering for meetings, events, incentive travel and corporate hospitality.

The first day of the event consisted of a large scale face-to-face networking event, with Scottish themed entertainment laid on for guests in the evening.  The following day focused on showcasing the array of activities on offer in the country for team -building and corporate challenges.  It also gave guests another opportunity to network in a less formal environment.

Lindsay Brown, Marketing Manager UK, said:
“We are delighted that the hard work of the team has been recognised across the meetings and events industry.  We work on around 60 events annually and put in a lot of effort to ensure that we maintain a consistent high quality as well as delivering a wide variety of effective marketing platforms to complement businesses’ own sales and marketing plans.   By gaining these nominations, it highlights our creativity in event formats as well as generating concrete results to the direct benefit of the Scottish economy. “
