Year of Active Scotland, Fife and Perthshire

So incentive and teambuilding trips to Fife and Perthshire are always about swinging clubs around some of the world’s most famous golf courses? Not so. What about hurling off a 40m high bungee jump? Or maybe attaching a sail to a go-kart and land yachting along a beach that starred in a Hollywood movie or perhaps firing down a river rapid in a rubber ring? These are just some of the thrills and spills I discovered when I left my clubs behind to see what else is on offer for corporate groups wanting to get active in Fife and Perthshire.

St Andrews is world renowned as the Home Of Golf, but here I found myself land yachting along the famous West Sands, not so much Chariots of Fire as Chariots of Fife. This fun, easy to pick up activity is ideal for small groups and the bleached blonde brothers that run Blown Away Adventures ( are an engaging attraction in themselves. They also have plenty of experience catering for teambuilding and incentive groups.
Fife is also Scotland’s motorsports heartland. Auchtermuchty may be most famous as the birthplace of the Proclaimers, but the Scottish Off Road Driving Centre ( is also based here. Then there is Knockhill Racing Circuit (, where you can either watch a race or go for a spin on the track on four or even two wheels. For mixed ability groups Kartstart Racing Circuit ( offer an all weather karting experience with top of the range carts. A ‘Grand Prix’ can be arranged with podium finishes and trophies for the fastest drivers.

Slipping over into Perthshire the hottest incentive and teambuilding action is in and around the water. Scotland’s ‘Big Tree Country’ provides a dramatic backdrop for getting wet and wild in its rivers and lochs. For an adrenaline pumping introduction the Highland Fling Bungee ( see clients fling themselves off the only fixed platform bungee in the UK, reaching speeds of up to 50mph. Only opened in spring 2011 bungee jumping offers something all too rare for corporate bookers – a genuinely different activity that will challenge even the most daring of groups.

I also hooked up with Nae Limits (, who have over a decade of experience working with corporates. Groups meet up at their purpose-built base, are kitted out in full watersports gear and are then driven off to one of the local rivers to get seriously wet. They offer whitewater rafting and kayaking alongside a raft of funky, new sports. I bashed off with river tubing. Anyone can try this, bundling down through river rapids in a rubber ring, a brilliantly fun buzz that will have your corporate group bonding the second they all fell in at the first rapid! Nae Limits lists a trio of corporate options on their website, but also stress they are all about being flexible to client needs.

Back on land Highland Safaris ( are on hand to help groups explore the wilds of Perthshire. They have a dedicated corporate website and a range of well planned activities, from the highest off-road driving available in the UK, through to competitive team indoor and outdoor challenges.

I ended my own exploration of Fife and Perthshire playing, yes, you guessed it, a round of golf. Fife today packs a thrilling adventure sports punch for teambuilding and incentive groups and there is always that world-class golf to add to the active package too. With 46 golf courses in Fife alone that cater to all skill levels the ‘Home of Golf’ makes for a perfect home from home for corporate clients.
