Capital secures major MICE event

Scotland’s business tourism credentials are set to be showcased to the world next summer, when Edinburgh hosts one of the biggest Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) events on the international calendar.

Meeting and Incentive Forums has announced its speed dating-style networking events for 2015, with Edinburgh set to welcome 330 event planners from across Europe and the UK and introducing them to 240 European suppliers.

The main workshop for the conference, which runs from 29 June to 3 July 2015, will be held in the new Lennox Suite at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. Delegates will be accommodated at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, The G&V Royal Mile Hotel, The George Hotel and Radisson Blu Edinburgh.

The forums’ proven format of one-to-one meetings and networking activities is the leading way for event planners and MICE suppliers to connect, allowing attendees to experience a destination through a full networking programme.

The Summer Forum in Edinburgh is going to be the largest of the year.

Fergus Ewing, Scotland’s Tourism Minister, said: “Never before has Scotland hosted such a large-scale buyers event for the MICE market, so the M&I Summer Forum presents us with a unique opportunity to showcase this country’s world-class range of services and hospitality.

“Led by the Business Tourism Team at VisitScotland, we are delighted to have won the bid to host this prestigious event. Around 330 buyers from the UK and Europe are ready to descend on Edinburgh to experience our hospitality, our culture, our venues and our hotels, further enhancing the excellent reputation Scotland currently enjoys in the global MICE market.”

A significant addition to the successful roster of events is a brand new Forum to be held in Dubai. The M&I Forum Europe Spring will bring the total number of European Forums targeting UK and mainland Europe buyers to four per year, and will showcase this exciting destination to a large new audience. The new Forum aims to respond to a growing demand for more events targeting these destinations, and to offer further flexibility in the calendar for both buyers and suppliers.

Steen Jakobsen of the Dubai Convention & Events Bureau said: “Together with our partners we are looking forward to hosting the M&I Forum in Dubai. M&I Forums is one of the most professional and effective platforms for business meetings between high quality buyers and suppliers. M&I Forums gives us a chance to showcase what Dubai has on offer as a business event destination and to grow our share of the international business event market.”

St Petersburg, Florida, is a new destination for the Forums, and a chance for M&I’s high-calibre buyers to explore an increasingly popular choice for MICE events.

Suzanne Scully, Director of Meetings & Conventions at Visit St. Petersburg/Clearwater, said: “The St. Petersburg/Clearwater area is honored to be the host destination for the M&I Forum in September 2015. Together with the Legendary Renaissance Vinoy Resort, we look forward to showcasing our award-winning destination to these prestigious buyers. The exposure we get hosting this type of event is unprecedented and we are excited to welcome M&I Forums to the west coast of Florida.”
