Meetings Show UK 2013

The Meetings Show UK is a major new event for the UK meeting industry and VisitScotland's Business Tourism Unit were on hand at the debut show. The event took place at Olympia, London from 9 - 11 July where the Scotland team showcased all of the latest developments as Scotland prepares to 'Welcome the World' in the Year of Homecoming 2014. Hosted buyers and other stand visitors discovered the best of Scottish conference and event facilities whilst enjoying a 'whisky tour of Scotland' with the help of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society.

During the three-day event, Head of Business Tourism Neil Brownlee took to the panel for the unveiling of the UK Economic Impact Study (UKEIS). Commissioned by the Meetings Professional International (MPI) Foundation, the Study is the most comprehensive assessment ever carried out on the impact the meetings industry has on the British economy. The findings indicated that Scotland's business tourism industry is worth in excess of £1.9 billion to the country's economy with Scotland hosting 86,524 meetings in 2011, of which Edinburgh hosted 28,553.

The following eight partners joined the team at Olympia, allowing visitors to discover the best that Scotland has to offer in terms of conferencing and meeting facilities, unique venues and incentive activities:

Assembly Rooms Edinburgh

Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC)

Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB)

Marketing Edinburgh

Perfect Manors (Achnagairn and Cortes Houses)
