Scotland Means Business April 2011

Our spring Scotland Means Business (SMB) event took place on April 12th and 13th 2011 at the Fairmont hotel in beautiful St Andrews, Fife.  SMB is a business networking event showcasing the very best of what Scotland has to offer meeting and event planners.

We kicked off with a welcome lunch in the Atrium at the Fairmont with a wide variety of delicious Scottish delicacies on offer.  A good lunch was a must to ensure energy levels were high for the main event - our appointment based workshop, where buyers each had 11 face to face appointments with top Scottish venues and service providers.  VisitScotland's chairman Dr Mike Cantlay opened proceedings before hosting a Q&A session for our guests from the international MICE press.

You would think that after more than 400 face to face appointments guests would be all talked out, but no.  No trip to Scotland is complete without experiencing the warmth of Scottish hospitality and all attendees were treated to a show stopping Scottish gala dinner in the evening to continue those crucial networking opportunities.  Roddy Deans was our host for the evening, also conducting a rousing address to the haggis, while the entertainment continued with energetic displays from Siamsoir, Bags O Rock, and of course the opportunity for guests to take part in the proceedings themselves with our mini ceilidh accompanied by the Reel Time Ceilidh band.

The event continued with a second day of team-building activities at Kinkell Byre allowing buyers to experience first hand the wide array of activities on offer in Scotland.  Guests turned their hand to activities including caber tossing, offroad driving, falconry, golf and even made their own oatcakes.

Across the 2 days guests discovered how Scotland can offer the whole package for business events, from unique entertainment and challenging activities, while maintaining that all important focus on business.

As with all SMBs, several familiarisation trips were organised across Scotland before and after the main event, providing buyers with a taste of some of the excellent properties that the country has to offer.  International buyers and press were welcomed in style from France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, the United States, Canada, Russia, the UK and Ireland.

Spring 2011's Scotland Means Business has certainly been the business event of the season!
